Year of the monkey

Happy (Late) Chinese New Year!

Fascinating post by a fascinating individual. Check out this blog.

Stories from an adoptee

On february the eight it will be Chinese New Year. It will be the year of the monkey. In Chinese monkey means “Hóu” . Sometimes children from the orphanage are named by the year they were born. Mostly this happens to foundlings. I am for example a foundling and was born in 1991. Therefore the orphanage gave me the last name of “Yáng”. Because Yang means sheep and I was born in the year of the sheep. The chinese names of the zodiacs are as followed;
Hû: Tiger              Jī: Rooster
Tù: Rabbit            Gôu: Dog
Lóng: Dragon      Zhū: Swine
Shé : Snake          Shû: Rat
Mă: Horse            Niu: Ox
Yáng: Sheep         Hóu: Monkey

(*The circumflex on the u should be the other way around but I am not able to do this.)

Do you want to know what kind of zodiac animal you are in China? Take a look at this image:
