Adoption = Hanging in There

Today, Hubby and I have been married for 14 years.

We’ve survived deaths of grandparents, friends and a parent

We’ve celebrated births of nieces, nephews and friends’ children

We’ve learned that sometimes the best things in life AREN’T free (but free is super)

We’ve persevered through an almost-divorce (so glad we stuck it out)

We’ve endured two years of HellonEarth and almost two more years of the ups and downs of special needs

We’ve adventured in the mountains and in the sand, in the snow and in the heat, with two happy kids

We’ve experienced some really spectacular star gazing

We’ve enjoyed many snuggled-up conversations in our cozy porch swing

We’ve done all of it together

Fooling around with colors and fonts, per Blogging 101 assignment. Emotions were not assigned.

  1. Casey,
I like the 75 year trial thing- would like to try it myself- am 23 years married this year.
When I got married, I never thought I would even last one year with someone I didn’t know- we had an arranged marriage. There have been times and more times, when I thought I would not get through or make it-thanks to my ever-patient husband, who was determined to stick it out, no matter what- we have reached 23. Its all thanks to him because left to me, I would have preferred the d-path.

  2. I like your post. It sounds like you are definitely being successful. We’ve made it to 50 years. And in answer to your question “Where is everyone?” My response is – taking a break and just reading!

    • Congratulations!! Let me know if you have any secrets to success. We have our own, but we take advice anytime! For us, the biggest thing is the commitment…”forever” is just SO LONG…so when we got married, we decided on a 75-year trial. We’ll stick it out for 75 years; if at the end of that time we’re not happy, we’ll walk away, no questions asked. 😉

  4. Congratulations on 14 years! Hang in there. There are always bumps in the road but those things pass and the road is smooth again. We will are married 55 years! I know that makes me sound old but I’m young at heart. Blessings to you in your adventure in helping two little children that needed to know what real love is. They will bless you some day! Hang in there!
With God’s help you will get through this hard time.

  5. Love the different colors 🙂 CONGRATS on your anniversary!! Awesome about sticking it out through the hard times! Happy to read your comment about not knowing another couple that has more fun, made me smile! AND we have to get together sometime for I then you could personally know a couple that has more fun. LOL! Laughter has gotten us through so much! You gotta have fun!

  8. Glad you stuck it out as well. I think every married couple has a “almost” in their past. The other 50% get a divorce.

    • I read once that every couple (at least, the ones they polled) who almost divorced but stuck it out were happier 5 years later than they’d ever been. I’d say it’s true. I don’t know any other couple who has a more fun relationship than we do (although hopefully lots of people will disagree with me…because that means THEY’RE happy). 🙂

  9. Congratulations! That’s a lot to go through in 14 years! We’re working on 27. (Good grief, now I feel SO old!) 🙂
